Phnom Penh has been poking its nose at us for long enough, with those lucky enough not to have suffered distress of some kind waiting with bated breath for misfortune to strike at any moment. David summed it up best with his noticeboard ....It's only a matter of time.

Attempted bag snatch while travelling on the back of a moto taxi.

Volunteer struck down with a near-death experience of heat exhaustion

Close call for volunteer who was threatened by a rubbish collector with a big spike at 8.30am

Fear and loathing between 2 volunteers resulting in a hasty exit from the house

Gunfire outside the restaurant where 2 volunteers were eating - can you believe that while they were hiding in the back rooms, the staff set up a table to serve them their noodles??

Cowboys with guns blasting as they rode past a couple of volunteers on their motorcycles

Broken toe from falling down the stairs (I must state emphatically that alcohol was not involved... and no, it wasn't me)

Falling down a manhole to chest-height

Bicycle crash and worse still, a coconut dropped onto shoulder of a volunteer- we had just been discussing the number of deaths by coconut drop. Freaky!

House phone and guitar mysteriously disappearing.

One volunteer left his parked motorcycle seconds before it was hit by a car.

2 motorcycle taxi accidents in one week for one volunteer.

One volunteer has gone AWOL for the last 5 days - completely cut off all communication with the school . He is apparently a victim of black magic from an old girlfriend and will surely have some amazing story of life and death decisions if he ever resurfaces. Meanwhile, he is clubbing and indulging himself it seems.

And of course the group dynamics of the 9 house members themselves are rather interesting and at times volatile.

What do you do when bad luck seems to be your constant companion?

Organise a monk to come and bless the house and everyone in it, of course.
