The final island along the east coast before i reached Thailand (didnt originally plan on going here but what the heck!) was the perhitian islands, showcased as the "premier entertainment sparkling diamond super super fantastic bestest island in malaysia honest guv" island.

I now know that anything portrayed or marketed as being as such consists of expensive accomodation and millions of backpackers. It was a bit of a shock after having an entire beach to myself just days before but in truth the water here was even clearer than before, you could wade out for metres and metres and it'd still only come up to your shins, gorgeous and warm, calm as owt it was perfect for lying back skulling around and generally relaxing.

At night the resident bars would set out tables with little candles and pump out music. Some where geared more towards the rave/full moon set (it was a quarter moon, any excuse for a piss up!). But i managed to find a reggaee bar that played a combo of two tone, ska reggaee and ambience, which gave out roll mats and bottles of vodka for around the price of a happy meal, combined with some ice and sprite i chatted to various people made plenty of friends and as the crowds started to dispurse and i considered whether to try and find my way back (without a torch, genius!) i was accosted.

By a kitten.

It just wouldnt leave me alone. There i am on my back watching the stars and generally being your typical white rasta (me got dem beats ya one love, me feel de rhythm ya blah blah blah) and something crawled onto my chest, it wasnt a cockroach it was giant so thats colin out the window, it wasnt a snake, it was soft and it purred and had claws. Geoff as i named him, couldnt of been more than 2 or 3 weeks old and was evidently a bit scared, and so in one of the most surreal nights of my journey i sat up and watched the sun rise with my new found friend, along with a few other determined sun seekers and people who enchanted by my great new friend.

Akuna matada i am at one with the animal kingdom they just cant get enough of me!....or so i thought....
