Sun sand sea arak beer dancing and everything else....under the afforementioned sun, i spent about 9 days in bali in total, a very jekyll and hyde experience it turned out to be! The first half of this "scitzo" experience was spent celebrating my birthday........

Anyone who has had the pleasure of experiencing one of my birthday nights out can attest to its messiness. Bali was no exception on the whole, my birthday was spent on the main tourist drag called kuta, which appeared to be the indonesian version of.....benidorm?!?! However i got together with my room mates at the local hostel, mostly surfers from all over aussie (bloody tons of em, MATE!) cheap beer and various free drinks* made it a great night....i think?!

* This involved walking down the main drag/parade where all the bars are, we went over to each bar in turn....

"AH LOOOOOOOK MAYTE G'DAY ITS OUR LADS BIRTHDAY G'DAY YEAAAH! TIE ME KANGEROO DOWN SPORT GET US A FREE DRINKS FOR THE LADS YEAH!" - Bloody aussies.....

"....ahhh are you staying here in our bar for the night?"

"OH FOR SURE MATE FOR SURE!"

They'd then produce this massive cocktail, more often or not poured into a hollowed out pineapple/"exotic" fruit on the basis we'd stopping around for the night spending copious amounts on drinks etcera, NOPE. Id down the drink (after a few bars this became more...challenging) and then we'd just swan our merry ways out and onto the next bar, it didnt work in every bar but in one place called paddy's we managed to score a free cocktail for all 6 of us.

All in all, messy!

A couple more days in kuta repeating the birthday night out was enough for me i think, tis a really built up tourist area, perhaps overly so when your there for a period of time, so i consulted my handy backpacker bible and came across a place called lovina, ahhhh this sounds good, quiet fishing village with black sand quiet waves etc etc, and so it was!

I spent the next 4 days here in quiet ambience soaking up the sunrays, going fishing with the locals and a few happy hours (some things never change). Good things come to an end though and my time in bali soon came to the fore, there was the rest of the west side of indonesia to explore and i only had an 30 day visa, so it was onto java...
