I struggle to write these blog things as they conjourn up an image in my head of those badly dubbed american soap operas you see on television like sunset beach, in which the acting is so bad they have to do a "voice over" explaining what is actually happening in the scene as the acting is so terrible. But il give it my best shot and see how it goes.
Anyway i digress, i arrived pretty much safe and sound in colaba after a none eventful plane journey. The prepaid taxi winded its way through the lunchtime traffic, the first thing you notice here is the roads are a complete free for all, beeping your horn basically means "get out the freaking way!"/
I gotta say the first few days have been a real culture shock, the beggars and touts and "businessman" are very persistant, and my taxi bypassed the "slum" areas on the way down to the point where im staying, Colaba causeway. Crikey moses as we english would say....
Ive done so much in just under 6 days and feeling knackered now, hence coming on here and writing up my little report, i managed to bag a ticket for the cricket on friday, which was 500 rupee which is just under 7 quid! it was the cheapest ticket and i had to say my heart went in my mouth when i first got there, over 40,000 indians and as i approached the stand everyone was cheering and dancing.
The whole match was something il never forget, it was Rajastan Royals verus the Delhi Daredevils, and like the rivalry between Leeds and Manure, mumbai DETEST Delhi! And despite being worried about being in the "blue" collar section of the stadium as the ticket office guy warned me, it seemed the people there had never actually met an english person before!
I got handshakes, high 5's people were dancing and going crazy everytime a wicket or a run was scored, the chant of RAJAAAASTAAAAN and a mexican wave went round as they eased to victory by about 80 runs in the end and i knew i had truly arrived in India.
As well as this i got to go elephant island which is just off the coast of mumbai, despite a few insect bites and a long hot sweaty walk up steep stairs to the caves entrance it was fascinating! Ive also been out to a few bars (to watch the cricket final, what else...RAJASTAN won that too...of course!) with some of the guys from my hotel and managed to put my feet up at an elegant cinema to watch a bollywood movie, hastey hastey!
I think that covers it for now, ive slapped a few photos on here but unfortunately the majority of my photos need resizing and this computers a bit slow so ive just weaved a few onto here for now, il sort the rest tomorrow night when i make my way up to Jaipur, the red fort on an overnight train.
Lots of love to you all, Stew
