Day 2 in the jungle and again weīre up at 6. The weather is baking hot and its in the high thirties by 7am. This morning we went piranha fishing. We waded into thes lakes, knee deep where you could feel the fish nibbling at you legs. Not pleasent!! To be honest I didnīt really enjoy the experience. The lads loved it, so did every body else in the group. I think it had something to do with the fact that it was so hot and I was burning up. Steve and Fintan thought it had something to do with the fact while they and everyone else in the group had caught 4 or 5 each, I had managed to catch absolutely nothing but thats just ridiculous. I mean why would you want to say you caught a piranha in Brazil? It sounds so boring!! Awe man I was so frustrated I could have cried!!. We drove on down the track to another camp and laid around in hammocks while the guides cooked the piranhas everyone else had caught. I didnīt catch any. None, zero, nada!!!. They were actually quite nice. Feck all eating in them but they tasted fine
In the afternoon after sleeping again in the shade, we went horse riding. It was hilarious. Poor Steve had the smallest little pony of the group. His legs were almost touching the ground and he couldnīt get it to gallop so he was bouncing around on the saddle for the full 3 hours. Iīd say his arse was killing him. Luckily I got a fairly good horse and I got it galloping fairly quickly which was scary as hell. This meant I was constantly ahead of Steve and Fintan who were taking up the rear and playing Brokeback Mountain when no one was looking. Iīm getting worried about them. Needless to say our arses were killing us after 3 hours riding - some arses were sorer than others! Ahem!!
On our way back to the camp we did a night safari along the road with a spotlamp looking for Pumas and jaguars but didnīt see any. We did get to see a terantula though which was pretty cool. The bugs back at the camp were unbelievable that night - the toilets were covered in all sorts of insects. See the video attached. This meant there was no way I was going to the jacks which was beginning to have its affects as it had been 3 days at that stage. We drank beer again surprisingly and chatted to the guides.
I know this all sounds great but trust me, as we settled in for our last night we couldnīt wait to get out of there and sleep in a bed for the first time in 5 nights. The heat, sweat, insects, filth and bites were starting to get to us.
