After an unnecessary stop for a few days in a sun scorched city called Piura in Peru for a few days (Stephen got to check out a Peruvian hospital... nothing serious and the service was suprisingly very good) it was finally time to check out Ecuador.

Another annoying 8 hours bus journey, we arrived at our destination Loja in Ecuador.

Nice city, not too much to see or do, but thats also nice at times..got to see a few films in an air conditioned cinema which was a nice treat...

Loja main square
We got to watch Ecuador beating Argentina in the World Cup Qualifiers... it was like they won the world cup, celebrations went on for 2 days... you definitely get the feeling that all the other South American countries arent too fond of Argentina...

Then onto the pretty little village of Vilcabamba, this is definitely a place to chill out for a few days, it is a town set in a beautiful mountain valley, it is known as the valley of longevity.... you can see why, pace is so laid back, hammocks in most of the hostels, lots of spas, horseriding etc...

Managed to stay in a wonderful French hostel called Rendez Vouz... private cleanest room ever, hammosck and terrace outside our door and surrounded by the most beautiful garden... it was d
efinitely a nice place to relax for few days.
Lazing aroundmore lazy people...

One morning decided it was time to get up off our asses and do something, so we went for a hike in the valley in search of a waterfall which we heard was nice... We were told it was three hours hard walking and two hours but of course once again we thought we were able for it...

It was a lovely walk mostly uphill of course... three hours later we are in private property... we have a habit of losing the trail... we are basically on top of a mountain... we can see the river and hear the waterfall... but cant seem to find the trail...

Getting a little frustrated... decided to head back... half way back... we see the trail we should have took... too tired (exhausted may be a better word)...  back to the village to have some well earned dinner.. during dinner we both are burning up... we soon realise we are sunburnt as hell and aching legs to go with it... not a good combination...
slightly sunburnt

Restless nights sleep due to aches and pains... but good excuse to lie on the hammock the following day.... plan was to go horseriding... but decide to give it a miss.

Following day we decide to leave Vilcabamba, lovely village but a little too touristy and overrun by a certain nation who as always are not too quite about letting you know what properties they are buying and general bullshit, so as the saying goes on the road again.... x x
