Like me, I am sure most of you have heard of Casablanca and can blame it on an Oscar winning romance film from the early 1940's. In fact, I have never seen the movie, but at least I also knew that Casablanca is Morocco's biggest city, that it's name translates to white house in Spanish and that tourists who visit usually finds it more ugly and disappointing than they had expected.

Johana and I didn't really have enough time to make up of our mind about the city, as we only had a few hours before our flight back to Madrid. So we hijacked a local taxi and asked him to take us on a quick round trip covering the main bits and pieces. In fact, what we were most keen on visiting was the gigantic Hassan II Mosque. Apparently its minaret is the world's tallest at 210 meters. We left our bags in the taxi, and while the driver waited for us we spent about 30 minutes looking at the impressive Mosque. We would have liked to peek inside, but there was really no time. We ran back to the taxi and had him drive us back to the train station in order to take the "airport express".

One week in Morocco really did us good. We all enjoyed it immensely and could easily go back with a few more weeks in our pockets to spend. It is so close to Spain, but really a different world altogether. However, with so many places out there to see, I wonder when I again will have the opportunity to visit. Probably not very soon...
