"It's been my favorite team as long as I can remember. I have never seen them play live before and now I finally get to see them in a league game at Santiago Bernabeu. It's a dream come true. You haven't seen them live before you say???..., man you suck. How long have you lived here in Madrid? More than two months and you still haven't been to a game??? Man, that's really sad. I haven't had a decent break from work in a while, but now I had the opportunity. So when I got a ticket to the game there was no questions about it. I had to go. Money was no object".
He goes on and on, and it actually sounds like it means the world to him.
"So when is the game?"
"Tomorrow night, are you completely clueless? I cannot wait. Maybe there will be two Danes playing. I'll go there early, so I am sure I get in without missing anything."
It all starts to get a bit blurry from here, but we end up at some sort of Salsa club where we meet a bunch of cool people from Colombia living in Madrid. The Dane (or possibly I???) buys a bottle of Rum and that's the last I see of him. The next thing I remember gives me flashbacks from PopayŠn in Colombia. I am in some apartment somewhere in Madrid drinking Aguardiente with a bunch of locals and Colombians. The Dane however is nowhere to be seen...
"What happened to the Dane back at the club", someone says...
"He probably went home to his hotel preparing for the big game".
"Real Madrid against Real Sociedad. He is going to the game on Sunday night."
"But they played last night. They drew 1-1 against Sociedad."
"Yeah right, do you have some more beer?"
Around 11:30AM on Sunday morning I am on my way home in a taxi. Suddenly I remember having seen Ronaldo scoring a goal. It's all very surreal. I can clearly remember the goal but I have no idea where I watched it. The only thing I know is that it happened last night.
"Hey Mr. Taxi driver, did Ronaldo score last night against Real Sociedad?"
"He sure did, a spectacular one. Too bad they didn't win though".
I verify it all on Internet when I get home, and then I fall asleep having nightmares about one very pissed off Dane going berserk in the streets of Madrid. In fact I can see the headlines. I don't wake up before it's time to head off to work on Monday morning. Luckily the town is still there.
Except for that, not much has happened since last time you heard from me. Drum roll... There's actually been a few quiet weekends without any partying whatsoever. I did however meet Nuria one evening for a few beers. She is a friend from England who I got to know while living in Seattle, and she was down here in Madrid for a short business meeting. It was very nice to see her again before she headed over the Atlantic to meet up with the Seattle crew. Hope you guys had a nice few days in Vancouver!!!
And if you happen to know a poor Dane who used to go by the name Lars Robinho, buy him a bottle of "Ron Medellin" from me will ya...
