Today I have been on the road for exactly 260 days. About eight and a half months that is. It's June 22nd, and I am in Córdoba, Argentinas second biggest city with a population of about one million (according to the "Crowded Planet" guide book). I think I said before, that not having a schedule set in a stone for this RTW trip has been gold for me. That's very true, but I also realize that by not having a structured plan it's very easy to stay in a place longer than you initially intended. Or visit places you didn't plan on visiting. Nothing wrong with that if you are having a splendid time, but back in Seattle about ten months ago, while I was sort of semi-planning my route around the world, I thought I would probably be in New Zealand by July 2005. That's eight days from now, and I am still here in Argentina, realizing that it's a possibility I won't make New Zealand at all on this trip (don't worry you Kiwis out there, I'll come visit your wonderful country one day!). I guess I could just skip the rest of South America, and head for New Zealand or South-East Asia now, but that's not what I want. I really enjoy it down here, and before I leave the continent I want to visit places like Salta, San Pedro de Atacama, Salar de Uyuni, Potosi, Sucre, Santa Cruz, Noel Kempff Mercado National Park (if it's not too expensive), Tiahuanaco, Sacred Valley of the Incas, Huaraz (Cordillera Blanca), Cuenca, Baños, Quito, Otavalo and Galapagos Islands. I also want to go back to La Paz, Lake Titicaca, Cuzco, Machu Picchu and Lima. All places I visited a few years ago. I may not make it to all the above places, but I will probably add other places instead. Places I still haven't heard about or initially didn't plan on visiting, but who other travellers I'll meet will rave about. It always happens, and is one of the many great things about backpacking. Making my way to Galapagos from here, will probably take me another three months, ...at least. That should take us close to October, and a year of travelling down here in Latin America. But then again, don't be surprised if all this change. Either the destinations or timeframe. Maybe even as soon as in the next blog entry. When I finally get to Ecuador, I will have to see where I'll go next. Maybe South-East Asia (don't worry Robban, I'll come and visit you in Bangkok!), or possibly I'll just stay down here, and head home to Norway for Christmas, before taking a couple of months in Thailand and the surrounding area next year (it's not like I am looking forward to spend January and February in freezing Norway).

There's a great new feature on Travelpod where you can add "comments" to every single blog entry. So hopefully I'll get some comments on the above. For example:

- If you had a year or so to travel the world, where would you go and why?

- Maybe even better, if you had a year you could do whatever you wanted, what would you do?

- If you were in my situation, eight months or so into a trip, what would you do next (head for New Zealand and/or Asia, continue as above or go home maybe, get a job you lollygagger!)...? Not that I will pay any attention to your suggestions ;-)

- What places have I forgot on my way to Ecuador, any must-see places I have missed (pricey Manu National Park in Peru maybe)?

- Anything else?

Don't be shy now, lets hear it!
