"The width of this amazing glacier is 4,500 meters and its height is 60 meters above the water level, and another 130 meters below the water level. Its length is about 37km. In order to get a perspective on the size of the glacier, it's enough to say that it can contain the entire area of Buenos Aires".
I'm in El Calafate, the gateway town to the Perito Moreno Glacier
However I am not hanging around for long. My main reason for visiting the area is to view the glacier and then continue my journey. I go on a day trip to the glacier, the weather is decent, and I get to see a few entertaining calvings from some of the viewing platforms. It's pretty spectacular to see huge ice blocks break off the glacier, and fall into the water with a thunderous splash. Unfortunately that's all I have to say about the place. It's hugely impressive and I am glad I came.
