Nice town, Trujillo. And with some really interesting archaeological sites a stones throw away, it´s definately worth a visit. The first one was the ruins of the Chimu civillisation´s city of Chan Chan. The bricks are adobe, made from sand and mud, and despite being built in the 14th century, the place is in decent shape. The second site we visited was Huacas del Sol y de la Luna (Temples of the Sun and Moon), built by the Moche civilisation, which predated the Chimus. We took a tour of Huaca de la Luna, where excavation only began in 1995. Alot done, more to do. And exciting to see such interesting recenly uncovered murals that decorate the temple. The Huaca del Sol is currently a mound of dirt in the desert, awaiting excavation. Who knows what archaeological treasures are waiting inside!!!
Seriously though, Peru - it has it all!! More thumbnails ...
