OK, it does look far on the map too, and it is far, about 860 miles from Washington.

Elvis room

We didn't decide on going to Memphis until we were passing Knoxville, and it was just as far to go back to Washington.

Stayed at a nice Motel up in the mountains in Virginia, the restaurant was closed so we ate some rubbish from the local gas stations.

Carried on driving the next day for about 12 hours.

Got out of the car at a Macdonalds in Tennessee somewhere and the heat was outrageous.

We arrived at the motel in Memphis around 8 o clock, we had passed a time zone into central time or something.

The room was smelly, so we went into beale street, checked out the street music, it was a bit like Blackpool.

Gracelands was the real reason for the 12 hour drive, we went there in the morning and did the tour.

We think it was worth it, long live the king.

By the time we get back to Washington we will have crossed 8 states, done over 2000 miles, stayed in the whole range of well dodgy to quite nice motels, all in 6 days.
