Caught the ferry to the beautiful island of Ilha Grande for a couple of days hiking and relaxation before reaching Rio...we weren't disappointed! Enjoyed a couple of hikes around the island with spectacular views. Mendes Lopes beach on day one was one of the largest most unspoilt beaches yet on this trip! Cheated on the way back to the hotel by hopping on a boat to save the 2 1/2 hour trek back!! Day 2 we crossed over the cent re of the island to get to Dois Rois where we got to visit an old ruined prison which was used to house both political prisoners as well as the usual mix of thieves and murderers! Unfortunately no boats back on this occasion so we had to hike the 2 1/2 back to our hostel!
