Problems of understanding

Early afternoon several of the family drive to neighbouring Ban Norng Po where the wife of their brother the monk lives and she is very sick.
I take the opportunity to revisit the farm and take some rough measurements as to the size of the shelter we want. Including the floor boards I couldnt get a total up to 200m.
When Jai returns we bike out to the farm again to try and discuss my concerns with the workmen. After a few chats and a few stick drawings in the sand we still arent really getting anywhere so I tell them to go home for the day and we do likewise.
German John has a shelter very similar to the one that we want and I decide that showing them this and getting them to take some measurements there might bring us closer to an agreement on the way forward - or maybe it wont.
Go to the farm with a couple of workmen to take a look at the trees. They spend 10mins measuring the old house by eye then start to saw up the trees for the replacement. We are paying 10bht per metre for the wood compared to about 60bht per metre if we were buying the trees themselves. I ask Jai how many metres they are going to be cutting to get an idea of how much we will need to pay. The one workman shows me his scribbles which I have to total up for him reaching the grand total of 563m, excluding the floorboards. This seems to me to be a huge amount for just a small shelter but at this point I hadnt really thought about it too much. After a couple of hours in the sun I had had enough so we head back to the house and leave them to it.
