We stop at Khorat for our usual 20mins break about 01:00 then continue to Bangkok arriving at Mo Chit bus station about 05:00.
Taxi to New Siam I guest house in Banglamphu where we are far too early to get a room.  Grab a coffee from the corner 7/11 then sit and wait for the guest house restaurant to open for breakfast.  Just finishing breakfast about 07:00 when we are called to say that our room is now ready.  A quick shower then a lovely stretch out on the bed for a bit.
About 09:00 we take a taxi to the Regent House on Rajdamri Road where VFS, the agency that process UK visa applications can be found.  The traffic is horrendous and at one point I feared that we were going to be late and may miss our appointment but in the end we arrive with time to spare and actually have to wait a while before Jai is alloowed to enter.  She is inside for about 20mions and is told to watch my e-mail for progress reports but as they are very busy it could take up to 15 days to get the passport back.
We take the BTS Skytrain north from Rajdamri, overlooking the horse racing circuit and golf course which is where I would have preferred to have been, and head to Mo Chit station where BTS ends.  We taxi the last bit to Mo Chit bus station where we buy our return tickets fore tomorrow night.  For some reason Jai buys tickets with a different company than usual so fingers crossed.  Taxi back to guest house and we feel as if we have been on the move forever.
Take a rest in the room before I nip out for a coffee mid afternoon and a quick check in on the internet.  We have been planning on visiting the SkyBar at the Lebua State Tower on Silom Road tonight for an expensive drink on the 63rd floor of the tower but I have been having doubts.  Reports on the net from previous visitors differ hugely from people who recommend it and had a great time and others who said it was far too busy, far too expensive and the staff were rude and often stopped people from taking photos.  In the end I opt not to go here but to try somewhere else instead.
We leave the guest house just after 17:00 and take a river boat up into town where we transfer at Saphan Taksim to the Skytrain for a few stops north to Sala Daeng.  From here we walk about 15mins to the Banyan Tree Hotel.  Here they have a bar on the roof, albeit only the 60th floor, that has good recommendations.  A quick ride on the express lift takes us to the 59th floor then a flight of stairs up onto the roof.  I have problems with heights in recent years and was a bit apprehensive about this but ...  As soon as we cleared the stairs the view was incredible.  The roof space is quite narrow and you feel totally surrounded by a huge drop to street level.  I found that so long as I stayed focus on the distance I was fine but as soon as I looked straight down I felt a little uncomfortable.  We are given a table right next to the edge and make our one drink each last a bout an hour.  A small beer and a pineapple juice was about 10GBP, so more expensive than usual but not extortionate.  It was too late by now to go for a river boat so we taxiied straight back to the guest house for snack before turning in for the night, tired, about 21:00.
Jai finally managed to have a chat with her daughter Jiap today.  Apparently her husband to be Gay is dragging his feet a bit and may now want a postponement until December 2013.  Neither of them are happy about this and plan to arrange a meeting with his parents shortly to sort things out.
