One of our aubergines has gone rotten and fallen of the plant overnight.  This is not a good sign as something is also eating the roots of our tomato plants overnight and killing them off.
Into Phon Thong for the Saturday market this morning.  First stop is the bank and try out my ATM card for the first time this year and am grateful to find that it still works.  Buy a hosepipe that is hopefully better quality than the ones we get in the village that need to be replaced every year.  Briefly visit the internet and see that Gloucester won their Euro game on Thursday.
We had been planning on getting a car into PHon Thong next week when we go away and then a tuk-tuk back to the village upon our return.  I have decided that we will use the bike as we have done a few times and leave it at a relation of Jai's sister Begat for the two days we will be away.
In the afternoon I connect up the new hosepipe and give thegarden a good soaking before we start the planting.  Beetroot, coriander, mixed leaf lettuce, pak choi, cos lettuce, carrots and 3 types of cabbage then go in and the garden is all but finished.  Just a small area in the corner to dig out so that Jai can plant some more of her mat grass.  Fingers crossed that it all grows now !
A relative of Jai's brother Sai from next door, Don & Pong, is having a party shortly to commemorate the 10th anniversary of his fathers death.  This is something that they do regularly here.  Jai's mum had been making them 10 large brooms and she wants us to deliver them for her.  We bike over in the early evening and are 'forced' to drink a large mug of rice 'wine' - more like whisky.  When we arrive at the village market a little bit later Jai announces that she is feeling drunk.  Whilst cooking back at the house she then proceeds to put cooking oil instead of fish sauce into our curry then smashes my drinking water glass across the kitchen floor.  We are both stood bare footed with glass everywhere and it was great fun clearing up.  I banished her from the kitchen after this !!  I am hoping that there will be no headaches tomorrow morning ...
