We are soon back into our usual routine of Jai making mats and me stretched out in the back garden with a book.
Up at 06:00 with the alarm once again. We walk to the bus station just before 07:00 expecting a 07:30 bus to the border. No. The first bus isnt due to leave until 08:15 so we settle down to wait. I want one last baguette so set out for the old town to the bakery where we usually buy them. It takes me about 45 minutes for the return trip and the bus has just pulled in when I get back. We reach the border at 08:30 and I make sure that I am the first off the bus and the first through immigration so that I have time for Duty Free. On the way out I looked for the Duty Free but couldnt see it anywhere but this time I spot it a few hundred yards away across the road so head over quickly not having much time on my hands. Unfortunately it doesnt ope until 09:00 so I wont be able to buy any tobacco for John from Pak Chong. Back just in time for the bus to leave and head over to Mukdahan bus station arriving about 09:00. This provides us with a second reason why we shouldnt have left Laos so early as the first bus heading our way might not be leaving until the afternoon. We settle down to wait and eventually find a bus going to Bangkok that passes through Phon Thong and we away by midday. In Phon Thong by 14:00 and back in Khamnadie but 14:45 where the expected scenes of devastation at the house do not materlialize and things are nowehere near as bad as I thought they would be.
