Preparing for a month long trip requires a lot of reading of travel guides and travel blogs, researching countries, cultures and unique geographic locations and hearing stories of friends and newfound acquaintances who have traveled to the destinations you're considering.  More importantly, it's choosing how to best spend the big chunk of time off you managed to lock down.   This past April, nine months ago, we started making plans.  It truly takes that much time to get a solid overview of the region and what it has to offer.  Although a trip to South East Asia sounds exotic, it's already been traversed by thousands of people so we're heading down a fairly well-worn path.  Since our schedule is pretty much locked in with hotel reservations and pre-paid flights, events like the Hoi An flood in Vietnam won't throw much of a wrench into our plans.  That said, we have enough flexibility to go with the flow, so to speak.   We leave on 11/28 at 10pm and arrive in Bangkok on 11/30 at 7am.  Then it's off to Hanoi at 10am.  The next time you hear from us, via the blog, will likely be in Hanoi!

Thank you all for your support, especially the HERO team who will be holding down the fort while we're away.  We couldn't do it without you!

We'd love to hear from you, but remember, your posts are public.  You'll be sharing them with friends, family, co-workers and strangers!

Which taste better, the dark meat or the light? Using my eye in the sky satellite I think I 'spotted' you outside the Panda Express. Have a safe trip and remember... I missed you 6 days before you left. If you need me I'll be right here!

I'm very exited for you guys, you are going to have a magnificent time. Remember to stay away from the Huk Muk Boo in Laos and the Cluk chuk choo in Cambodia because they both have questionable ingredients. OK, I just made those up, but stay away from them anyway 'cause they can't be good for you.

Oh, boy, it's getting really close, isn't it. I'm so excited for you AND apprehensive (can't help it...I'm a mother). Can't wait to live it all vicariously.
Love you.
