Another hot day. Chatting with three other guests at the "Cosy" this morning who came in day before yesterday. They are off by train in the evening southwards whilst I am off northwards early tomorrow morning. So had a lazy day of it today. We had a brunch at one at one of the pavement cafés. These are really cheap. I had fried vegetables with rice in Oyster sauce with a coke for 35 BHT about 70p. All day today after the rally last night, the “Reds” have been protesting everywhere. Huge motorcades of motorbikes and lorries (with people in them) all with red t-shirts, baseball hats and flags have been passing by. By huge I mean at least a 1000 in each one. Quite impressive. Their does seem to be a bit of the devil and the deep blue sea about he causes of the Yellows and Reds – but I guess the Reds are supporting someone who was elected despite being involved in various corruption scandals! Because of the goings on – we decided to give the centre of Bangkok a miss as it was the demonstrations aim to bring the city to a halt. So in the afternoon caught the new metro (no photos allowed) a few stops to the very impressive Lumpini Park. This is new – or looks it anyway – very nicely laid out and clean. It has some great trees in it with lakes and so on. Some giant lizards live in the lake – must be a metre long from nose to tail. There is a concert hall (with an unusual water feature in front) and an excellent park fitness trail! The other three went off to catch their train – about 10 hours I think with 40 bunks in the carriage then a ferry crossing so finishing this off with a beer. 8.30 train tomorrow so better leave at 7.30.This is before the reception opens but they have given me my 100 BHT key deposit back already!
