Well I think it was quite clear in yesterday's blog that Steve was not too keen on South Beach Miami. It was made even worse today when we came to check out of the room and they charged us an extra $30 on top of the room price quoted for "Room Tax!"  You can imagine.........

So we headed out of Miami tout suite, well as fast as the traffic would allow us to go.  There is a yacht and boating show on from 16 – 20 Feb and everybody was getting ready for this so traffic was pretty slow.  Thank goodness for the sat nav as the road system around Miami is phenomenal – makes Spaghetti Junction look small.

Anyway after an hour and a half we started to hit the Everglades National Park and the Florida Keys.  Great trip from here onwards.  The park land is all fenced off and I am not quite sure whether it is to keep us out or keep whatever lives in there away from us!  Mmmmmmm........not going to ponder on that one too long.  Everywhere is so flat in Florida, not a hill or mountain to be seen, very different to North Wales!

The scenery was lovely with water all around us at some points.  The temperature kept rising as well, which is always a bonus.  We both went back to putting shorts on this morning – pure bliss!

I had booked us into the Coconut Palm Inn in Tavernier, part of Key Largo.  Key Largo is the first Key that you  come to when heading down the coast and apparently there was a film set here in the 1950’s – will put it on my ones to watch now.  The place is fantastic.  On checking in we were advised that we had been upgraded into a sea front room - bonus!  The Inn runs along the beach with a few jetty’s out into the water with boats attached.    There are lots of fish, pelicans and other birdlife.  There is also free use of kayak’s – not sure I will be having a go again, Bali was enough for me.

A few people were out soaking up the sun, but not many.  We quickly changed into swimwear and soaked up the sun by the pool for the afternoon.  A quick dip in the heated pool and a stroll down to the end of one of the jetty’s to watch the sun go down.  What a brilliant place this is.

We were recommended to go out to a local restaurant for an evening meal and it was great.  Lovely atmosphere and all decorated for Valentine’s Day too.  We generally never go out and for a few years on the trot we didn’t even spend the day together – either Steve was away working or I was away.  So this made a lovely change.

One thing that is really noticeable when out driving at night, is the lack of street lighting.  It is not a problem at all and actually makes the night sky brilliant – I have learnt so much being dragged (or should I say accompanying my husband) to these observatories and space centres......... When we got back to the Inn we had a stroll around and both lay in one of the hammocks looking at the night sky.  What a perfect end to a perfect day, think we both feel very lucky!!
