Our first day in we bought our bicycles and rode down The Embarcadero along the waterfront. We checked out Pier 39 and saw the famous sea lions that hang out there, and then made our way to Pier 45 to tour the S.S Jeremiah O'Brien (one of only two remaining WWII Liberty ships that are still seaworthy) and the U.S.S Pampanito (a submarine that saw active duty in the Pacific during WWII). After a yummy dinner down in the fisherman's wharf district, we made our way home again.
Our second jaunt into the city included a trip to Alcatraz Island with a ferry ride to the infamous prison. Once a Civil War Fort, then a military prison, Alcatraz became a penitientary in 1930
The last day of our visit we opted to get out of the city and check out Point Reyes National Seashore. Following the San Andreas fault, Point Reyes has wildlife and incredible ocean scenery away from the crowds of the city.
San Francisco has so much more to offer, but alas, our wallet dictated that we get out!! This city warrants a closer look in the future and we hope that we, along with you, can get there soon!
