Yes!!  The Columbia Icefields due to their elevation have year round snow and a slowly retreating glacier.  We trekked up the glacier with grandiose dreams of going to the top......uh, not!  Very slippery, spooky crevases and high winds (sounds like we were attempting to summit Mount Everest!), so we were happy to go a few hundred yards.  Quite cold but breath-taking scenery.
Did the compulsory stop at the iconic Lake Louise and walked to the end of the lake: pretty but very crowded and quite frankly, there are other areas in the Rockies just as beautiful with less people and more rugged.  Took a gondola ride up the Lake Louise ski resort, spotting grizzly bears and beautiful vistas - wished we had our skiis and could be back for winter.......sigh!
Banff was pretty and we hiked through the Johnston Canyon and tested out the hot springs in Banff (we like our hot springs!).
Alas, we needed a break from such beauty - we started looking down at the ground:  it got tiring craning our necks upwards and always seeing such beauty (I know, tough life!).  Next stop Calgary - the heart of the new west.
