I was right, I am ment to be a hula dancer. I took to the 1st lesson like Al to cheese and I think that if I keep it up, I will be able to join Don Ho before long!Tonight was the best night yet by far. We got to the Luau at 5pm and were not only ID'd when we got there, but served a fun and fruity Mai Tai LUCKY! So we made our way to our table and set a few things down. They have it arranged with activities and such. Me being a sport and all, i decide that the Poi Balls looked like a good idea. Should have thought twice. I think I may have a black eye, they are lethal! I did however sit by a out rigger canoe and play glamour shots with Amiee and the rocks. I think that I have some work to do on my posing. We watched people throw spears and was elated to hear the call for hula lessons! I got right up there and concentrated hard. I think I passed with flying colors. So I also got crafty and made a bracelet out of leaves and plumeria flowers. I was tempted to rub them in my pits..you know! So I also learned that if you put a flower in your right ear you are single and if in your left you are taken. well I had enough of hunky Hawaiians pouring over me, so it was to the left ear and it stayed there *grin*
Dinner time rolled around but not before I saw this gangly man climb up a palm tree to retreave his nuts. I guess he was there to spread flowers over the people below, but nuts were involved too
! We watched them do a hula and dig up a smoking pig from the pit and we headed to dinner. They had a piggy buffet and I loved the Mahi Mahi. The show started and they were looking for the best hula girls around. Well they knew I was in the crowd so I could not disappoint my people. To the stage I went and surprising enough I was center stage and in the spot light. I felt like grabbing the mike and singling "what's new pussy cat". So after my delusion faded I tried my best to stay on task and lead by example. I think that my 3 mai tais made me more limber and my hips were flowing! So I managed to be standing next to the entire softball team from penn State (great) and was pummeled by the one nearest me. Seems as thought they can throw and catch a ball, but keeping on flip flops at a common hula was impossible. I worked with what I had and by the end I was presented with a certificate saying that I was now crafted in the art of hula. Any questions? I will be willing to field them when I return state-side. The show continued with fire dancers and hulas that were great. I am wondering if there are applications being taken? Chiropractic or Hula..tough one!
I have to say that I had a great time and would do it again in a heart beat. On our way home we stopped at "Coasties" as Amiee calls it (US coast guard bar) and hit up the lst round or so of 75 cent beers. I saw the BIGGEST cockroach I have ever seen in the ladies room and it made for a quick hover! Awesome, and now I am home and ready for a big day at the Swap meet and a concert at the Hyatt on Wed night. XO
You know when you go into the sun knowing that you are going to get some color, but not sure how long it is going to take? well this morning I discovered an amazing line on my back. I guess I tied the perfect bow with my bikini top and it laid just right in the middle of my back. So you guessed it, I have a white bow on my back. So brilliant me, I decide to sit outside while waiting for laundry to get done this morning, and I apply sunscreen (you can't be to careful). I am sitting for like 15 minutes and I move a bit and notice another line. This one is mid thigh from my shorts. I am not winning this battle. So right now I am trying to regain my lost vision from the sun before round two of me trying to cover the tan lines that are magically appearing. The news just said there is rain coming on friday, so I have got to get cracking! I am headed to a luau tonight and we'll see if I end up on stage..*wink* Mom and Dad, if this hula thing works out, I may be away from the office a little longer...these people need me here
