Our Monday started after our train got in at almost 10 pm and Marlin drove Strasbourg France. Did you know that roads just STOP? Yep. GPS sucks here and there was mini heated words about turning the wrong way down and one way and then backing up and turning where it was not allowed. I Called the hotel and he told me he did not know where we were. Great! So we parked in an underground lot and walked with all of our bags down cobble stone and brick streets. We were tired and as we made it to Hotel Masion Rouge the front desk says "reservations for one?" Wide eyed we were ready to sleep in the lobby. Marlin did his thing and the man says " sure, a room with 3 beds sir". Thank you Marlin! We have a nice room and poor Marlin had at twin bed that was about 6 inches off the floor and 6 inches too short. We all managed to get to sleep....well almost. As I laid there I started to feel itchy. Now I have been so careful as to not eat all the things I should not. Apparently there is something new because I broke out into full blown mini hives all over and it was amanda saving the day with allergy Meds. We finally went to bed at 2am.
Marlin got up and went to work and Amanda and I got up at 9 and went to breakfast. We are now ready to head to the streets and see some more France! Oh and find a pharmacy!
Holy moly!!! Amanda and I had a successful morning. We found a pharmacy right outside the hotel and I was lucky enough that she looked at my skin and gave me allergy Meds. I'm not itchy!! We walked to petite France near the water way and locks and saw great old buildings, school field trips, flowers still in bloom and plenty of other people with cameras!!! We kept following the masses and the water and found the Cathedral Notre Dame. All I can say is WOW!! What a sight. We went inside
and it was perfect timing because it started to rain again. It was huge! The stain glass windows and extremely tall ceiling and domes dwarfed us and quite frankly was very humbling. We took lots of pictures and were there for over an hour. I am still In awe!
We continued to walk and Amanda made her first purchase... A scarf!! I am on the lookout for a hat. Problem, having a hard time finding one the fits my head. Weird! We stopped for lunch in this little pizzeria and just plowed through gnocchi with shrimp and mushrooms and a pizza with artichokes, ham and an egg. Yum!!
The day continued with Marlin having to work later than expected so we went shopping!! We both got some killer shoes!! I had my eye on these boots and they fit but if I intended to be able to walk in them with continued circulation then I thought better to pass. Just saving money!!! We were In and out of some seriously trendy shops and more than once I had a driveby tickle from fur and feathers. Apparently they are "in". Yeah. So... Moving on Amanda found some yummy soap as well and we were so worn out that we needed refreshments. I am so proud of myself. I ordered 2 local white lagers on tap. Granted I had my phrase book in front of me, the bartender smiled and was happy to serve us. I felt so good about my speaking ability that I asked for another. When in france!! We went back to the hotel to meet Marlin and here we sit waiting for him to take us to some Tomb restaurant.
Well worth the wait!!!! We sat in this title balcony and had beer and escargot (one practically jumped off the plate aka me grabbing the spoon wrong and making an ass out of myself by burning my hand) as we waited for our entree. Who would have thought salmon and sauerkraut? But it was beyond good!! We were full and wandered back to the hotel. We are all
Packed and ready for another adventure tomorrow! Amanda and I are going to take a train to Colmar and do some more sight seeing!!
P.s I found leather pants....we won't even go there! And Marlin's umbrella is in the trash!
