Everything comes better in pairs!
We woke this morning with Marlin getting ready for work. He left at 730am and Amanda and I walked with him to drop off our bags. We then hurried back to the hotel and rested until 9 when we went to breakfast. I am in awe of some French women. The gal at the next table plowed through 2 croissants, 4 pieces of bread, a couple rolls and took a dip in a bay of jam and Nutella. What am I doing wrong. Clearly that was my justification for my chocolate croissant! We packed up our belongings and headed to the train station. We were to leave on a 1051 train to Colmar. We still had to buy tickets. That is not as easy. We followed signs and finally made it to a ticket counter. The woman working said " you two are under 26 right?" I thought I heard "you two are over 26 right?" So I answered "yes". Good thing I did because she said the first one and we paid half the fair!! Oui!!! The train ride was beautiful and you could see the mountains in the distance with a few castles. This area we are traveling is called the Alsace region. It is know for its wine in particular as well as flambé (thin pizza with onions, creme and bacon) and foie grais (duck liver)!!! Did you know the creator of the Statue of Liberty is from here and there are mini replicas and pictures all over!
We got into Colmar, France about noon and walked our buns off we went to the pedestrian area and window shopped. We have reevaluated shopping because we have to carry it home!!! We had lunch at this little cafe that was warm and cozy and shared a bottle of Riesling from this area. It was all amazing and we decided we like currents and persimmons( little orange fruity things). Needless to at we are fearless...ha! Yeah right. The duck liver was good!!! So staying with the theme that 2 is better than one. We have stopped and an outdoor covered cafe and are in these couches reading and blogging. The 2 part...Well we are having out second bottle of local wine... pinot noir. Whoa!! We are waiting for Marlin to get out of work and meet us at the train station. Tonight we are driving to Basle, Switzerland and going to dinner at some place that has Cordon blue!!! Hope you are enjoying out travels!!
What an evening!! We met up with Marlin in the busy city center and we came baring gifts. PRETZELS! They had cheese on them and were so good! On our way out of Colmar he toon is around this round about that had a statue replica if he Statue of Liberty. Imagine " look kids there is big ben!". We laughed the whole time!We took a short drive north to the castle up in the mountains. Our ears popped like 3 times and when we got their everything was closed but the view was not. The pictures do not do it justice. As we winded out way back down we was the sun set and miles of grapevines!! We got into Basle, Switzerland and this place is busy! We are staying At the Raddison blu. It is ritzy!! We had a chocolate plate waiting for us and they keep asking about "Martin". Ha...love when people translate names! We went to this Swiss pub and the food was amazing. We had veal cordon blue and the best damn Brusselsprouts ever. As the day went on poor Amanda started to feel yucky. She has a sore throat and is super tired. I think she appreciated when we were on the train and I said I would stay awake and then passed out cold 10 minutes later. Woops! I Doctored her up with emergenC, an adjustment and loads of vitamin d. I made sure we all did!! Well currently I am the only one awake and I have 2 snoring peeps in the room. Tomorrow we are checking out the spa and surrounding areas. I cannot wait!! Good night!
Ps high five to my brother Jac on a second tri exam week!! You are almost done!! Xoxo
