Day one in Switzerland
Trip Start Oct 11, 2012

This hotel is amazing! We decided to be physical and go swimming. We went into this posh locker room and headed for the pool. It was beautiful! Very modern art. We were the youngest ones there. That would normally be fine but when we decided to go to the steam shower we got more than we bargained for. We knew that the steam shower and sauna were sans bathing suit, but when we went to rinse off before we we went in we were greeted by a few old men in the buff. I know I am supposed to be more professional but it totally caught me off guard. We passed on the sauna and went back for another swim. So mature....I know
We got ready and headed to the city center and saw markets and beautiful buildings and went to Münster. It is an amazing cathedral on the River. It was beautiful out and we could see the mountains in the back ground. I am putting a trip towards the alps on my list for this week. Marlin and I had a change of plans and are not going to be staying in Freiburg Germany. We have been running ragged and we will be staying in Basle until Sunday where we will move on to Zurich for a couple days and see more of Switzerland. I am going to try and track down some family!
Amanda and I are actually headed to Bolwiller which is close to Ensisheim where Marlin is working. We are meeting up with him there and headed to wine tasting!
We made it! It was a quick trip to Bolwiller. I love the train system. We were picked up at the station by Marlin and his French project manager Gilles (jills) and we went to wine tasting in the Mure winery. Gilles taught us about French wine and the tip of the year...pretty much any French wine from 2009 is going to be excellent!! I am going to have to talk to my Meijer wine guy!! We had Pino Noir, Riesling, Pino Gris and dessert wines. I can honestly say that a buzz you get from good wine is totally different. We talked About how in Michigan and most of the USA that has wineries, they actually water the crops. Here it is all Mother Nature and if they have a low yield it is a smaller batch and more concentrate. Both Amanda and I are rethinking our boxed wine we have in the fridge!! Maybe I'll switch to the jugs? We did buy a couple bottles and hopefully they make it home!
Next we went to this restaurant in Sundhoeffen. It is this cute little French/German cottage with pots and pans hanging from the ceiling
