Tonight was my first forgo into the world of teaching English as a Foriegn Language.
I think it will be a good expirence for me. I'm glad I have a French background, and being in the midst of learning a new language myself (Spanish) myself helps too.
My students are refugees from all over the world.. Tibet, Iran, .. countries I havent even heard of. They are so eager to learn and so determined to get it right. Its really encouraging and rewarding. All of my students tonight were men at least 5 years older than me. One student who has lived here for 3 years hasnt seen his family in 2.5 years. Another recounted a "fearful expirence" as being chased by the Chinese police and a "dangerous sport" as mountain climbing when he fled Tibet.
It was like a different world there, and strange to come back to Uni where everything is light and easy and students are young and carefree.
I'll be teaching 2 hours, from 5-7, every Friday. Except when I'm travelling, I hope I make it every week.
Starting to plan some trips, a few friends are going to Stockholm but its over Thanksgiving and I'm not sure I want to do that. I'll keep you posted.
