Well, what a palava!!! Me and Carlien boarded the plane at Heathrow and the adventure began! After being sent to an alternative airport in Russia because ours had closed (really!!) we were sent BACK to the original one and arrived in one peice. My sleeping bag had gone awol (sob) but we had many adventures at the airport changing money and buying train tickets in Russian!! We eventually made it to the metro, and I have to say - this thing is AMAZING!! The London Underground and NY subway do not even compare, some people just ride around on the metro all day here, it rocks!!
We got to Moscow and searched dark alleyways for our hostel. We were just about to give up when we found it in the sweltering heat (even at 1am it was still close to thirty degrees) and were then informed that our booking was for one male. What?!?! All sorted now and in a nice room with an Ozzie guy and American girl.
So far we have visited the Red Square (several times in fact!!), the Kremlin, the GUM, a monastry (quite an experience), HRC (Chris you would be proud, and we had so much fun!!) a convent, done a river boat cruise, drank vodka shots with Russians, gone to the coolest market I have ever come across and seen dancing bears!! SO cool (if a bit sad)!! Moscow ROCKS. For those of you who are interested Ive also completed the McDonalds taste test and its scored pretty well. But anyway......
Have just come back from a night out to a really cool bar with some guys we met and no word of a lie, I thought I was going to be killed by a very scary Russian man. Have never been so scared in all my life :( I'm still in shock and cant stop shaking!! But that's another story!!
We're meeting our tour group tmro for the Trans Mongolian Railway so looking forward to that!! Will try and stay in touch but its hard to find internet cafes here and my phone is sure pricey!!! Please do keep in touch though, missing you all loads, especially Ted, Big Ted and Ryan :( So much more to tell you but no time now. Hopefully be back on here soon.
Higs, kisses and loads of love, from Steph xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
