So! This is Africa. I have to say I've been pleasantly surprised so far. After all the comments I've gotten from people at home, I guess some of the fear/nervousness about Africa rubbed off on me...glad to report it was basically unjustified! I have felt at ease since landing and stepping off the plane. In fact, I probably feel safer & more comfortable here than in the entire time I spent in South America (other than in the Amazon). Oh and, it is beautiful. I just didn't expect so much green! It does remind me a lot of the Amazon...a little less humid and a tad less isolated.

The place I'm staying is also much nicer than i had anticipated. Right now I am at a place called 'Eden Rock' and I am staying in the dorms. There are real toilets! And supposedly (sometimes) a hot water shower! Although that has yet to be tested. The people have been very friendly so far, and I am excited to start with Soft Power. This afternoon I will be going into Jinja with two other volunteers. I'll be glad to report that I've arrived safe & sound!

Until next time--
