Back on my original boat Myrtle, we fortunately had fantastic sailing conditions for our final sail back home. When I wasn't navigating or doing mainsail duty, I sat on the side of the boat, just taking in the bright cloudless sky, the deep blue of the water, the small white crests of the waves (which indicated high winds and swells), the wind and water spray, and just enjoyed being out in the open sea without a care in the world.
The strong winds and currents pushed us to our top speed of the week - 8 knots (just over 8mph), and you could really feel the speed as the boat heeled dramatically from side to side and sliced easily through the waves. St. Vincent's Grenadine islands had offered secluded beaches and good snorkeling, but the real draw of the Grenadine islands was the sailing - far enough apart to let sailors experience open-sea sailing, but close enough together that you could reach any island within 3-4 hours, with well-protected bays to anchor in at night.
By the time we reached home, we were all desperately in need of a proper shower and exhausted from the sailing, but all of us found the trip to be a phenomenal experience overall, one to be remembered for a long time to come.
