We only had a day and a half to spare in KL and so decided to get cracking immediately, after dumping the bags in our lovely hostel we walked across the road to Times Square shopping centre (which is literally across the road). There's about ten floors of shopping heaven to be negotiated but why bother when there's a flippin' rollercoaster on the fifth floor, I got excited pretty quickly but then brought back down to earth fast when I saw the price (it's not a backpacker option).
Wanting to get out asap we took a beeline into the Pavilion shopping centre and stood wide-eyed in front of Topman/Topshop (I guess it's not that weird to see them here, we just found it quite exciting). Of course we went inside and found that the prices were more expensive than the UK, I bought a T-shirt regardless, in preparation for USA, honest.
On our second day we headed to the KL tower which is supposed to give a better view of the city than the Petronas Twin Towers which were closed.
To finish our final day we took the tube to Chinatown and the nearby Malaysian Flagpole on Merkada Square(sounds unimpressive but is actually pretty damn huge, the tallest in the world) which was raised when Malaysia gained its independance, every year thousands descend on the grassy area to celebrate Merdeka Day. I was really taken aback by how beautiful KL was, I didn't realise cities could be just that, but, each busy street is lined with huge trees, there is very little litter and the people radiate friendliness, I could see myself living there one day.
We'll be back after we've been to the Perhentians and Taman Negara, can't wait ....
