Since my Mum was in Xi'an and we were in Tianjin it made sense to have a brief family reunion before we headed back across the other side of the globe. So my brother and sister decided to fly over to see us both. First they flew to Tianjin and timed it so that they could have a few days there first then we all flew to see mum in Xi'an.

It was cool to see Mum's apartment and school too. Her school is a lot more organised than where we were teaching and the school seemed very nice. Mum loved showing us around and showing off her Chinese skills.

Xi'an is a nice city but since it is surrounded by mountains, it is the capital of the province that is China's largest coal producer the smog was terrible! We had thought that Tianjin had had some bad days but Xi'an was on another level.

It was nice to be in Xi'an as tourists though. We did all the token attractions including the Terracotta Warriors and the cycling around the city wall. As all of us had smart phones with decent cameras some of the tourist snaps degraded into a competition of who could get the funniest photo. Yes we are incredibly mature!
