September 19th and I think I need my winter coat for work tonight, Sad isn't it. Where other parts of Canada are still out in summer clothes, golfing and enjoying the weather, Banff is a deep-freeze. Oh excuse me, we've gone up to a balmy 4 degrees Celcius now. Whitehorse in the Yukon is currently warmer than here. Though not that's it's of any consequence, Iqaluit in Nunanvut is colder than here! Small miracles?

I'm at work right now. It's almost "dead". I may or may not have taken a little nap. I can't disclose that information for certain though. It's sort of been like a day of anticipation. Waiting and waiting for the sun to rise enough to see the mountains, waiting and waiting for the clouds to lift enough to the point where you can tell whether or not there is the horrible "S" word that's been on everyone's lips the past few days. And now, when I went outside for my break at noon, I can confirm, there is SNOW!

I couldn't help but be excited walking down the sidewalk. "Look snow, ah!!" Cool. It's a little exciting you think, as your cheeks go all red and your nose starts to run. Half of Mount Norquay has been dusted in that kind of white spray-can frost. Tunnel Mountain seems to have escaped unscathed, though Stoney Squaw just got it's top frosted in the spruce trees. I can't see much of Rundle from the hoteel because it's hidden behind Tunnel Mountain though the side facing towards Canmore has quite a bit of snow on it. Cascade looks fearsome, covered almost from head to toe. Looks like I won't be climbing Sulphur this fall as it's covered as well. Banff is like a bowl full of cloud today that seems to be leaking slowly and slowly, uncovering more and more peaks as the day continues and the sun get's stronger. It's just kind of cool on days like this where you see the power of mother nature and you just feel so small compared to her and the vastness of the mountains all around you. Reminds me of that crazy day back in May where it was so cold that it started snowing some of the biggest snowflakes I've ever seen. No snow stuck on the grounds but the mountains around town were completely white. I like those strange days.

Almost makes me look forward to winter time. Take out the nice warm winter coats, the pretty scarves and hats, sipping warm drinks at a coffee shop, sitting around a nice warm fireplace while the flakes fall silently outside the window. But.....in reality it's just a lot of unattractive pouffy coats that make you look like a doughboy, runny noses, frostbite, ridiculous windchills, headcolds and flus making the rounds, and wearing 4 layers of clothing to bed to keep warm. Woohoo!!! I don't know about you but does it get any better than THAT?

So......anyone for south of the border come January???? I'm not going to survive this!! I guess I need to give up on the sandals too?

P.S I will write a few entries from my trip to Jasper and when the parents were here as soon as I get the chance. Pics too!

Ta for now,
