Well, it's not the beaches of Thailand, hiking the Anapurna circuit, or even a foreign country, but it's the best I can do at the moment. Winnipeg for another 36 hours and then westward. As per usual I have procrastinated a wee bit. Cleaned my room today finally after a month and a half. All that's left is concentrated on my bed. Then I can start the packing again tomorrow. People keep laughing at me that I can't stay still for very long. Just finished seeing everyone and been welcomed back for them to say goodbye again. What can I say though?
Start work on Friday. I hate starting new jobs. I get so nervous that I won't be any good, I won't like it, I'll be a slow learner and so on. But after a week or two everything always works out and I get the hang of things again.
Had a nice dinner tonight with Ernie, Mary, the grandparents and the family. An early birthday party for mom. Caught up with Dave on Saturday night and Sandra, Lester and Samuel on Thursday in Brandon.
So weird driving down the highway to Brandon. Seeing the tractors on the side roads, the flat fields with no trees so you can see for miles, places like Rat and Squirrel Creek, the farms, the deer along the highways, a bald eagle high up in a tree. Passing by other highways heading north for Minnedosa, Neepawa and then on to Dauphin and Swan River. Made me remember where I came from and how long it's been since I've been back. Christmas 2004 was the last time I was in Swan. Even though I've been so many places and seen so many things, I will still always have those memories of growing up and I will always be from that little town in rural Manitoba. That drive made me remember that you will always have that home no matter how far away you go or for how long. Hopefully I can go back there for Christmas this year.
Looking forward to Banff though. Lots of good memories there from all the trips growing up. I really hope the weather stays good for the trip so I can drive. All the way through Saskatchewan should be "great". Boring, but I just like to drive. I think it must be about 3-4 hours to the Sask. border and then hopefully make it to Moose Jaw or Swift Current on the first day, then on to Banff the next. 1336 km I believe to Calgary from Winnipeg then another 128km to Banff. At least 15 hours driving time. I love road trips!!
Can't wait to get to know the town, the hiking trails, and so on. Should be fun to live in such an outdoorsy place. It's not exotic or anything, but it's a means to an end,(ie. saving money for future travels???) and a more interesting means than Winnipeg would have provided, so what more can you ask for.
Anyways, many things to do so will talk to you again. Night!
