Arrived this afternoon by bus and I have 2 words. NEVER AGAIN!
The bus was under $10 and we got a "sleeper", which means we were able to lie down (fully flat like a bed) for the 3 hour (160 km) journey from Hue to Hoi An. I am pretty sure the driver was trying to save money on gas and would only give a blast of air conditioning ever 45 min or so. We were dying from the heat, the stench of a full bus of people sweating and the claustrophobia. I slept for a few hours...or was it pass out from heat exhaustion! A local guy paid for a seat (sitting up) and then stretched out a hammock in the aisle of the bus. Crazy. I dont even want to know when the last time the pillows on the sleepers were washed, if ever. I feel like a petrie dish with god knows what growing god knows where.
Thank god we are on our vacation within our vacation in Hoi An at a 4 star resort, pampered and with no itinery for 3 days we can sleep in and hang out on the beach or pool
We are on the coast so its good sea food all the way! We stopped by a tailor recommended by Samir and Jaanu and will see if we can bargain with her, we want a lot made. If not we will hit another tailor tomorrow, they are a dime a dozen here....as are the cobblers. Silk and cashmere abound. Its limiting yourself to what you want, not what you see....I cant go overboard. Well I can, but dont want to.
Hoi An is a nice, sleepy beach town, UNESCO world heritage again. The taxis are metered and cant rip you off, which is a nice change and the streets are closed to motorized vehicles downtown after a certain hour, which is also a nice change from "hello motor bike!!!".
No is "com" so no thanks is "Com, com on". I am getting good at it. Did I mention I hated the bus experience? I really really did.
Dropped off the laundry for $1. Poor buggers.
Photos tomorrow.....
