Wow.  Oh wow.

Athens is amazing!  Anything I write cannot do it justice.

Eva, who took me in in Sicily years ago, is my most excellent tour guide with an excellent set of wheels!

People drive like maniacs here, insane speeds through town.  Its a religious holiday today, so it was relatively quiet for a Monday.  One can only enter the city with a car that ends with an even number on even dates, and vice versa....to keep congestion and pollution down.

The archeological sites are brilliant, considering takeovers and bombings, its amazing there is so much left standing....and from as far back as the Golden Age 1600 BC ladies like what I like

!  Wow!  Makes Angkor Wat look modern.  I really wish I paid more attention in Classics class at Dalhousie.  Hercules, Zeus, Athena et al are all here, as are Socrates and Plato.

I am staying next to the National Museum, which is right downtown.  There are police around most corners down here as the university is next door and, like most big cities, Athens has the usual colourful characters and problems.  Including a strong Anarchists movement, who are known to join student protests and take hostages (like professors).

Found some jewelery from my favourite Greek silversmith, Babylonia, by complete chance!  Bought my first piece 10 yrs ago in Thessaloniki, so I was happy to introduce Eva to his work.  Awesome!

Will add more later....time for bed now.....
