Made it through Germany to Athens on the stand by tickets with no problems on Sat and Sunday. Took a train from Athens to Larissa...which I suppose I should have looked up on a map....is more North than I thought, I am quite close to Thessaloniki, where I attended the Aristoltle University 10 yrs ago. Lila, my lab partner from the Aristotle U, is my tour guide in Larissa and has kindly put me up. She claims the only way she recognized me at the station was by my hair. Of course.
Earthquake on the train yesterday, about 5. something south of Athens. I am hanging out in her office now (she is a biologist with the Government here, so I am wandering around meeting other biologists, which is neat), free wireless or rogue signals are harder to find than expected.
My greek is super rusty, not that it was ever good by any means, but at least I could read the capital alphabet....I am cramming now, I already got lost this morning and the street signs are like math equations!
All for now, I am super tired and will take today to get back on the horse. And eat. Well!
Kalimera.
