Show trip route
Over the weekend we visited several beaches in the area. We went to Newport Beach, Huntington Beach and Laguna Beach. Huntington Beach on Saturday afternoon was very crowded. I was able to take some close up shots of the surfers over there.
My cousin Chris and his friend Tara took me to an Art Show / Art Walk in an artists district in Santa Ana. We had a very interesting conversation with a successful contractor who's selling designer furniture. He gave us some useful thoughts about how to run your own business successfully
After visiting several garages where they displayed the art, we went to a bar nearby to have a drink before heading back home to Irvine.
On Sunday we drove into L.A. First we dropped my cousin Iris at a warehouse near Downtown where she had a movie shooting as an actress in a music video clip of Colette Carr. After making sure this was the right place where they are actually shooting a movie and not some random creepy place, we headed to Hollywood. We visited the famous Hollywood Boulevard and walked up and down the Walk of Fame.
Later we continued to drive to Beverly Hills and Bel Air. We also met a tourist bus and the driver was actually making a joke and was referring to auntie Rowena as Lucy Liu. "Don't hide", he said.
We got sort of lost in the this labyrinth between those luxurious villas and were driving in circles. We almost bumped a yellow corvette with a woman driving the car looking like Angelina Jolie.
So we decided to head back to the Sunset Boulevard and drive up the hills to get a spectacular view over Los Angeles
In the evening we went to Santa Monica where we had dinner at a lovely steak house. It was already 10.30 PM when we contacted Iris to see how her shooting was going. She then told us, that they didn't even start to shoot her scene yet. So we decided to drive to that creepy place and wait inside the warehouse. We got there at midnight. The shooting was currently taking place on the upper floor of the warehouse. We were able to hear the footsteps of the dancers. So we were actually allowed to wait at the set and could watch the movie shooting and all the preparations going on like putting on the make up and preparing the set for the shooting.
At that time we didn't know that we would stay at the set until Iris' scene was finally done at 05.30 AM in the morning. She was playing in one of the last scenes taking place at an asylum. Her role was a crazy woman within the asylum.
Before that they were shooting a scene in the ladies restroom 3 times in a row. The shooting lasted about 2 minutes each followed by a 30 minute break where they have remade the make up of the singer.
Even though we had to wait for quite a long time it was a nice experience to watch how they where shooting a live movie.
It was 06.15 AM when we arrived back home this morning. So we went straight to bed as we planned to visit my aunt in San Diego later this day.
