Really glad to be back on Koh Lanta, it's a still reasonably quite island and the beaches are beautiful. So first thing we did after dropping our luggage at our hotel called Pada beach hotel, is going for a walk on the beach and look for a nice restaurant on the waterfront.
While we are having lunch the weather starts to change and the black clouds are moving in. A little later it starts raining, and this goes on for about an hour than all clears up and we can go back on the beach. We go for a long walk as far as we can on our beach and than walk back over the road where we found a sweet little café where we stop for a piece of chocolate cake and a latte, mmm. Than we walked back and relaxed for a couple of hours and went for dinner. We phoned Michel and Nacir who had arrived in their hotel as well and made an appointment for 12 tomorrow.

We wake up with beautiful sunshine and a great view from our hotel window.
We found a good place to have breakfast not very far with next door a travel agency who rent motor bikes where we got our bike as well.
After having done all that we go to meet Michel and Nacir at their hotel which is real nice but a bit far from the restaurants, shops and café's, so they don't want to stay there to long.
We have a great time talking about our experiences as they have been traveling up north near the Myanmar border for a month before going to Bangkok and now here.
We had some lunch there and stayed until around 4 PM. We went back and walked some more on the beach and than went back to our hotel to shower and have dinner.

1st of March (thanks Jarek)
We had breakfast at the same place and than got the tickets for a boat trip we want to do tomorrow with Michel and Nacir. Than we drove up to the pier around 16 km at the north side of the island where there's lots of nice restaurants on the river and walked around there a bit.
Than we drove back south and stopped to check out all the different beaches after ours up to the last beach about 40 km south. Last time we were here 3 years ago we were lucky and saw elephants bathing in the sea, really great, not wthis time, shame ! We'll have to come back !!
Than we stopped at the hotel of Michel and Nacir and had some drinks with them until sunset and than we drove back to have dinner and went to our hotel. Tomorrow we'll go snorkeling on our boat trip.

Got picked up at 8:40, so we had a quick breakfast before that.
We than picked up Michel and Nacir in the back of a pick up truck :-) and drove to the place where the long tail boat was waiting for us.
We went to 4 different islands with beautiful water where we could do our snorkeling which was great ! Already gotten completely wet on the way due to the waves but that is part of the fun. We also had lunch on one of the island's beaches (pretty spicy as usual) and all together we had a great day !! Got back at around 5 pm and after a shower and some relaxing went for dinner but we didn't stay out long we were feeling pretty tired.

Michel and Nacir had rented a SUV for a couple of nights and asked us if we wanted to drive around the island today. First we went to check out a few hotels as they wanted to change. In front of their bungalow which was beautiful and fancy right in front of the beach and with big swimming pool they could not get into the sea because of the rocks and they were really not happy about this. So the day before we checked a few and found some that were really nice on a beach where you could get straight into the water and on top of that they had their own speed boat to go diving for which Michel had been instructor. So they were happy ! After that we drove to the old town on the other side of the island where there were nice restaurants on the seaside. Meanwhile it had started to rain again for about an hour, it seems that the rain season has started early this year. We drove to the south point where we found a little resort which was real funny, a bit like treehouse on Koh Chang but more kitschy. They had bungalows in the shape of boats and some little bungalows in trees. They also had in a cage the biggest kind of squirrel I've ever seen. The poor thing had been found after it had been shot by a hunter. Stupid assholes, people seem to shoot everything that moves. Wish they'd shoot each other !
After all that we went to the hotel of Michel and Nacir to pick up our small hard disk as we copied some series from them and vice versa. Than we had to say goodbye, it had been a real nice couple of days and we really enjoyed being with them ! We'll see them soon in Brussels !!
If they read this, enjoy the rest of your holiday !!
Than we went back to prepare our back pack and foresee the cold trip in the bus to Bangkok.
Went for dinner, watched 2 episodes of Dexter and went to sleep.

Had breakfast and waited to get picked up by a mini bus that would bring us to Krabi where we will get on the VIP bus to Bangkok. We arrived at Krabi at 14:00 so we had time to lunch and surf as the bus will arrive at 16:00.
As foreseen we got picked up at 16:00 and were driven to Surathani where more people from the other islands joined us to get into a big VIP bus.
We left at 19:00 after a break of 1 1/2 hour.
Again as last time this way of traveling is exhausting as the position your in is horrible you can not stretch your legs and after a few hours you really feel cramped. The worse thing is the airco though, after a while you feel like an ice lolly and lots of people are coughing away. Any way we got through the almost sleepless night and arrived at 5 a.m in the morning at Bangkok.
