We arrived around 13:30, the trip with the big bus to get here took about 5 hours. Again the roads pretty terrible but I suppose we got used to it now and that's just the way it is. Lot's to see on the way as this is a beautiful area which is incredibly green. Taking pictures from the bus is not easy but I managed to make a little video this time. We drove through the Cardamom mountain range which has beautiful sceneries with lakes and wetland in which you find a lot of water buffalo's. Next time we come to Cambodia we should have a closer look at this area as well as the 12 islands not far from here, the biggest are Koh Yor, Koh Kapi, Koh Moul and the biggest of all is Koh Kong. I read that a Chinese investment of 5 Billion will soon make a big difference in this area (new airport, new seaport, enormous golf courts and all this off course by cutting away all the forests, mangroves and so on) so we shouldn't wait to long :-( if not we're too late !!
These islands are still practically uninhabited and only very recently people are allowed to stay as it used to be military ground. A few guesthouses have moved in, some of them eco friendly, really basic, without running water (saving rainwater) and general electricity (only from solar panels).
Our hotel is absolutely gorgeous, built on poles on the water on the riverside of the Meteuk river in the middle of the jungle and mangroves. This is a good place to totally relax for a day before traveling to Koh Chang on Monday.
Andrea has got some allergic reaction to a few mosquito bites and it's better to keep them dry so the timing is good and we'll stay out of the water for the moment.
We just got ready for dinner when Veronique called us with Facetime, a first time for her and she was really surprised by the quality. It was great to see and talk to her, funny how Mauro was playing tricks and putting two fingers behind Veronique's head, little devil :-)
After a nice dinner with crab in one of the small cabins we hang out in the hang mats for a while and went to our room. We thought it was a good moment to try to facetime with Renato and this time we found him, poor Tatoo was sniffing away as the whole family was recovering from a week of flue
While we were in the mood we also tried to get Fré, Katleen and Ayco on facetime but we couldn't get them. They're probably still in Austria skiing !
Have fun there, big kiss and hugs ! When you read this and it's possible give us a buzz or a sign that we can call, ok ?
Woken up by a few very young kids with their parents, yelling and playing at 6:45 as they were leaving at 7 for some kind of excursion. Some people really don't know how to educate their children, shouldn't have them and are selfish ass holes. By the time I got up my feet they'd gone, maybe I'll see them later on, anyway, told the reception and they knew about it, we'll see. After they left we slept some more and had a late breakfast. The rest of the day up till now we totally hang out around the place, tried to find the most comfortable seats and position to blog and play around with our pics and iPhones !!
After that Andrea skyped wiith her two sisters for a bit, usually she does this early in the morning because of the big time difference of 8 hours. Funny that we just get up for breakfast when they're going to bed. Than we saw 2 episodes of Heroes and went to sleep.
Got up at 9, prepared our backpack before we had breakfast and hang out for a bit as we had to catch the bus at 12:30. The really friendly girl from the reception offered to bring us to the bus stop so at 11:45 she took us one by one. Again this trip would end up to be special. We got the bus at 12:30 but 10 minutes later we stopped for a break of 30 min 'cause this was the bus that came from Sihanoukville. Than we drove up to the border where off course guys tried to talk us into all kind of ways of making money. Took us about half an hour, than walked to the other side, this is a small border-crossing lucky enough, on the Thai side it took another 15 min. great ! Than we got into a minibus after 15 min, we drove half an hour and had to change again.
We drove another hour and a half and had to change again. All this without any kind of explanation. Than we drove up till a restaurant where we could eat something and with off course a little agency that could sell us all kind of tickets
Arriving at PK 208 felt like coming home, everybody came to say hello and the two dogs Popka and Peke went crazy jumping around and licking and cuddling us. Great fun !
We took a shower had some nice noodle soup with vegetables and chicken which off course I had to share a little bit with Popka as she come's and sit next to me with her "I'm so hungry eyes" :-). Then we went for a walk, had a coffee and went back. I chatted with Lionel for a bit and than went to bed.
