Snow again where is spring?
Feb 09, 2013
Left Honfleur this morning with a heavy heart (Can you tell it was a town for artists and poets?) Can't see the sun yet again. (3 degrees). I suppose it was out yesterday can't expect too much. We have a drive of about 320K's ahead of us. First up it's slow going as the GPS takes us along country lanes yet again. After the ringroad around Caen it's highway driving as there is no tolls, sitting on 130kph. It's a good day for spending in the car as there is even fresh snow on the fields beside the road. First stop Fougeres. It's a bit of a detour but well worth it as you can see from the photos. It's an old town with a fortress that's in good nick. But by the time we get there the fortress is closed for lunch. So we have lunch ourselves and try a Galette. It's a speciality of Bretagne. ( Savoury crepes) We had ours with Emmenthal cheese, mushrooms and chorizo. I got to say not bad at all. After lunch we couldn't hang around too long because we had to meet the landlady with the keys in Dinan. So we decided to hit the road and come back later in the week, as there is another town just down the road that we wanted to see as well. Nice little surprise when we got to Dinan. We have our own little cottage above our garage in the old town. It's an old place built of granite stone like most the buildings in Brittany and upstairs it's all been done up to quite a high standard. After settling in we go for a bit of a stroll. Tourists everywhere! Haven't they realised it's still only 3 degrees at 5PM. The place looks a treat. It's an old medieval town with ramparts all around.
