At Jacksonville Ricky and Dale went to another Hit Centre owned by Aaron Marston. In contrast to the centre in Georgia this centre is operating viably. When asked why this was so Aaron indicated that the centre had been operating for 6 years and had been constantly improving their systems and developing a good word of mouth reputation. To Ricky and I it was also apparent the centre was offering small group and youth athlete development opportunities. Aaron indicated that he was also looking to open a new fitness centre alongside the athlete development centre to generate a further revenue stream and even out the seasonal highs and lows characteristic of the athlete development revenue stream
On recommendation of the Bell Boy at the hotel we also visited the Brooks Family YMCA Centre. The size and quality of the facility was a surprise to us both. On asking we found out the centre had been designed and built as a high fee private fitness centre but for tax reasons the Brooks family owners had donated the centre to the YMCA in January 2008. As you might imagine the centre has all the bells and whistles with top of the range equipment and great finishes in all areas especially the locker rooms. It is a very busy centre with 7000 members with membership fees based on capacity to pay as measured by the applicants previous years tax group certificate. A very fair approach and unique to the Y.
