Up. Usual routine - down to the sea and eventually breakfast sitting on the veranda of my shack- the fresh fruit salads are huge and brilliant.

I'd suggested yesterday we could all go to the market at Mapusa (pronounced Mapsa) but we hadn't made a decision as today was meant to be the hottest day of our holiday. In the end just Alan and myself went.

It's a very large local market and it lived up to its name. Vivid colours and smells, not necessarily bad, everywhere, especially from the dried fish out in the open and huge - it just went on and on. Told later the dried fish (for old people !)was a vestige left over from the Portuguese (they love dried salt fish) and the fact that the Goan, maybe Indian, government stops sea fishing for about five months a year to help with conservation.

The covered fish market was very large and full of all sorts of fish and shellfish. Likewise the covered vegetable market. And the flower market. Herbs and spices everywhere, pots, pans, kitchenware, household stuff, electrical goods, mobile 'phones - you name it and it was there. Apart from hats - we found all sorts of clothing, foot ware, Alan bought a green leather belt, but we couldn't the hat stall area.

Just by the meat stalls, some halal, only seemed to sell beef and no pork (pork vindaloo
Is a Goan dish), we stopped at a local cafe, er local ! Two samosas and a cup of black tea each - yours for a total of about 75p !

Went down to the live chicken area but they'd all been sold. So it was back to the bus station, a quick drink of fresh orange juice. We did find a place that might, and I reiterate, might have sold us a nice cool beer. However they were closing for some reason so we were t allowed in.

So it was back to the taxi, the drive home, a quick shower and out to the Freedom for a cool drink and the breeze on the beach.

Thankfully it wasn't as hot as forecast today - only 95 / 35 and it's rapidly cooling down with a lovely breeze. In the Laughing Buddha and just had a fantastic Indian meal - egg and chips. Stomach not 100 per cent but not upset yet !
So just being a bit careful- we'll see tomorrow.
