From Kochi we booked our trip on the Allepey backwaters. On Friday morning we took a taxi to Allepey and got on our house boat. We booked it for 24 hours. It was savage, two decks, sitting room, TV, our own cook and our own driver. We cruised through the backwaters all day, watching the locals go about their business, washing, fishing etc. The children all smiled and waved at us like we were celebrities. Actually it's been like that everywhere we've been, getting stared at everywhere we go, especially Lydia. Someone even ran over to us with a camera asking could they take our picture. The people seem very friendly all the same. Anyway the backwater cruise was really relaxing and the scenery was unreal. We spent the night on the boat and in the morning the cook made us our first non-curry breakfast (on our 4th day after having curry for breakfast, lunch and dinner everyday since arriving). The omelette, toast and pineapple was very welcome!
