This morning was probably the most scared I've ever been in my life. I did not want to go on this trip. I was nervous and worried and just all around terrified for what I was about to do. It didn't help that I was fretting over my luggage. I'm not a light packer, not at all (I get it from my mom!), and so I was just stressing over whether or not my luggage would be overweight; not so much by the airline's standards, but moreso for Contiki, where luggage must be 20kg or under on the day of the tour.
Basically, I ended up repacking my entire bag 20 minutes before I left for the airport, because I wasn't sure if the bag I was using was acceptable by Contiki's standards (I later learned that it would have been fine, but I'm happy with the bag I ended up taking!).
So, off we went to the airport. I checked in, had a muffin from Tim Horton's as I sat with my family, dreading everything that was about to happen. When it came time to go through security, I couldn't handle it. I was crying, everyone was crying. I was so so so scared. But I went, red eyes and all, through security, after saying my goodbyes.
The flight to Toronto wasn't too bad. I watched some TV shows, listened to some music, tried not to scare myself too much by thinking of worst-case scenarios.
I got to Toronto and had a 4.5 hour layover. The airport was like a sauna, it was so gross. So many people... I just had my (horribly overpriced and underwhelming) lunch and found a seat and waited for time to pass.
I'm not a fan of flying, at all. Like, I despise it. Sitting in a ridiculously uncomfortable seat for x amount of hours and not being able to sleep? Not a fan. But I love to travel, and to see places, so I suffer through it. I just wanted to sleep for this flight, but they were going to serve food, so I figured I'd keep myself awake for that. But, of course, there was turbulence, so the food was delayed. So I decided to turn on a movie (Leap Year - not the best movie ever, even for a chick flick, but I would be Ireland in 2 week's time, so I figured it was appropriate!). After the movie and after my food I finally got to attempt some shut eye. I luckily didn't have anyone sitting in the seat directly next to me, so I got to get a little bit more comfortable. Not bed-comfortable, but it worked, I guess. I got maybe 3 hours of sleep? I don't really know. I guess I'll move on to day 2 now. Time zones and overnight flights are confusing!
