On monday, we go back to laguna de apoyo for a week of school so this weekend we chilled out in granada. It's been a bit frustrating as the water and electricity are constantly cutting out. The generators were out in force today as businesses do their best to keep service going. And without water, the toilets won't flush and there is no way to wash your hands after going. There is supposedly a manual way to flush the toilets, but mel and i cannot figure out how to do it! If you know how, please send me a message with instructions!

Then there's the fact that most places don't take credit cards, so you really have to carry alot of cash. For example, there is no place to get money at laguna de apoyo so i have to carry all the money i'll need for our food, classes, taxis...etc... to laguna tomorrow.

On top of that, my small daily travel bag was STOLEN today :(. I'm very sad about that as my camara was in it. It was my own stupid fault as i put the bag on the back of my chair while we were eating at an on street restaurant. stupid, stupid, stupid and now i'll have no pictures to show for the trip. i was really excited about my pictures. mel has always said i need to let go of my stuff... now i really get to test that.

Also, we went to the market to buy a longer shirt; my current ones are too short and provide ample opportunity when i sit down for mosquitos. but the market is chaos. Each shop might sell 5 -10 male shirts so you have to hit many shops to find one you like in your size. Then of course, because i look gringo, they try to charge me exhorbanant prices. So i stopped at our old hotel and asked them what a good price was for a shirt. By the time we returned, though, everyone was closing up shop early b/c it's sunday.

we did have a great local meal at a place called comida typica on the main gringo row. (It was where my bag was swiped.) It's the only remotely local looking restaurant on the row which means there aren't any other tourists there. Try it!!! We had a special of corned beef, fried plantains with yuka, tinta (i believe) a cold verion of hot chocolate with a few other spices thrown in, and chicha de coyolito a drink made from fermented corn.
