Ginger and I are sitting in our hotel room in LA eating Chinese food and looking forward to getting some sleep and to fly out mid day tomorrow. The last two days have been extremely intense; Ginger getting us ready to go and my making America safe for democracy. We got to bed last night at about 12:30 and we had to get up at 4:30 so I could work out before seeing my diabetes MD.
As usual, a disaster struck just before leaving. Some idiot (me) couldn't find his wallet. We spent 30 minutes looking for it but never did find it and had to leave without it. Emily (our great dogsitter) has since found it so no problem, except that we are now in Los Angeles and the wallet is in Nashville. If Ginger dumps me I have no credit or debit cards and no health insurance card Luckily I did not lose my passport.
The long flight begins tomorrow from LAX-Toyko-Singapore - that's a lot of time for me to fidget and try to keep busy. But, if you want to see the world you have to suffer through some long flights. We have just learned that there is severe flooding in Hanoi - they have had about a week of heavy rain and there have been 70+ deaths reported. We will be in Sinapore for 3 days before going to Hanoi, so hopefully the rains will stop and the flooding will subside. Perhaps our first Vietnamese purchase will be serious rain gear and wellington boots. When we checked in today at Southwest the agent asked us if we were in the Peace Corps; maybe we'll find ourselves working as "unofficial" members rather than doing the sightseeing that we'd planned.
It's been a long day so I think that we are ready to read a bit and then SLEEP, even if it is only 6:30 ish in this time zone. We'll probably be awake at 4 AM tomorrow, but we'll have time for a nice morning walk and I'll try to convince Ginger to go out for breakfast instead of eating the hotel's free offerings - fat chance, she's SO CHEAP! Ha ha - good night to all. Next stop - Singapore - where the chili crabs and chicken & rice in the food stalls await us!.
