I have always had an enormous sense of trepidation about leaving home for a long spell. I imagine it is knowing that the things that are familiar to me - the people, the places - will be out of reach, and that is something I do not like.
I have come to realize however that every time I come home from an extended trip, that I am much more appreciative of what I have. So I will try, once again, to remember what an awesome feeling it is to set foot on home soil after a long journey. Of how great that first Tim Horton's coffee is at Terminal 1. Of how soothing it is to hear a Toronto radio station in the taxi on the way home. I am reminded, upon seeing the Toronto skyline from the Western approach along the Gardiner, of what an amazing place HOME is and how much I look forward to seeing family and friends again. And DON'T get me started about Christmas, man! Woo-Hoo!
Until then - I am getting set for Dubai, land of desert excess. My first foray into the Middle East. From there, 2 weeks trekking across the Himalayan wilderness in tiny Bhutan, land of the thunder dragon where I will see Everest from afar. Finally, a week in India.
Bags packed, ready to go and only the hours ticking by now..... I look forward to updating you all (as internet access permits), and see you in November!!
