Last Supper, and Goodbyes

Well, the flight from Punta Arenas was short (1 hour) and uneventful. We got in about 3pm, leaving lots of time for settling into the hotel we were to stay at our last night, and scouting our a locale for our group goodbye supper.
I had pretty much already seen all of Ushuaia, and the national park, and only had missed the glacier to the north of the city. But I had had my fill of glaciers, and I figured IŽd be seeing ice soon enough in Toronto, so I opted to hit the internet cafe like most of the locals (these places are PACKED!) and catch up on the news from home.
The election polling looks depressing, there was nothing exciting on any other fronts, so I made my way to the bar at the hotel and happily found most of my travelling companions already cozied up with cervesas (I love these people!)
We had expected the rest of our group (the bus crowd) at 7:30, but when they finally arrived close to 10pm, we were waaaay ready for dinner. Apparently they had long lines at the border getting back into Argentina, and they had a ferry ride as part of the trip to get into Tierra del Fuego that didnt run ontime. But even though they were tired (and frankly, not smelling so pretty), we were glad to see them (or maybe that was the wine?).
We had an excellent dinner, swapped laughs about our journey, and thanked our guide Sophia who did an excellent job managing us and ensuring nobody got into trouble along the way. Sophia gave a lovely speech, and after a few more laughs, we called it a (late) night. Some of us would not see eachother again (but thankfully Sophia has collected everyones email for group distribution and photo swapping), so we said those goodbyes. For those of use going onward to Buenos Aires tomorrow (3 of 9), we planned to meet at 8am and have breakfast before heading out.
It was a lovely sunset over Ushuaia, with the greenish sunlight slipping down in the far southwest. A nice reminder that we are at the end of the earth.
