What I did
We get a late start today after walking all over Las Vegas last night. We are both pretty tired. It seems that every day on this trip we have had to walk miles. I should be skinny by now, but I think the fantastic food we keep eating is winning . We stop for lunch before we leave Las Vegas at a well known Fish Taco place, Phat Phranks.
We then head over the Bass Pro Shop. Art loves to stop at these stores and look at the displays of animals everywhere we go. I have added a few of his snapshots to our picture gallery. This particular store has super animal displays! I love the giraffe!I I also shop and buy some clothes.
We finally get on the road toward Williams
We drive down to the dam and then we are driving across it. It is pretty uneventful just to drive across it as you can't really see much. We drive up the hill past the dam to a small country Visitor's Center (the original one). There are parking lots that are free and some you pay. We stop at the free ones for great photo shots. The water is so green and seems to be very low. The dam is very impressive from this viewpoint. THE TEMPERATURE HERE IS 106!!! We quickly get back in our car!
We head back out and cross the dam again, taking pictures of the more impressive NEW Visitor Center and Gift Shop
The time zone here is Mountain Standard Time, so I keep expecting our phones and GPS to change times. They don't. I finally look it up to discover we ARE in MST, but Arizona. is not on daylight savings time. So we are still 3 hours behind.
We travel on enjoying the beautiful Arizona scenery and amazing mountains that continue to surprise us. Our cameras never stop clicking. We make a couple of stops along the way before we get to Williams. Art finds a huge, huge, junk yard of old cars. Cars that if restored, would be worth tons of money. He takes pictures. We stop at a little Arizona barn for some pictures and a little gift shop with restrooms.
It is dark when we arrive in Williams even though it is only 8:15 (no daylight savings time). We find our hotel and then head out to find dinner. We are surprised that everything in this small town is open. Shops, restaurants, everything
On the way back to the hotel we pass the train tracks and see the Grand Canyon Railway that takes people from here to the Grand Canyon. There are four different trains with multiple cars that are parked for the day.
We finally get to our hotel for the night. Tomorrow we are going to the Grand Canyon.
